Country Number Nineteen: Turkey

Country number nineteen on our 52 countries in 52 weeks world tour is Turkey. Leaving Europe behind, we were ready to dive into the Middle East and experience a country brimming with history, culture, and adventure.

Istanbul: A City of Energy and Architecture

Our journey began in Istanbul, a city that perfectly blends East and West. Walking through the bustling streets, the stunning architecture and vibrant energy were impossible to ignore. We explored the legendary Grand Bazaar, shopped for local treasures, and indulged in spectacular Turkish cuisine. Istanbul was a whirlwind of sights, sounds, and flavors, setting the stage for the adventures ahead.

Cappadocia: Hezen Cave Hotel and Underground Cities

Next, we flew to Cappadocia, where we stayed at the incredible Hezen Cave Hotel. Built into authentic caves, this Instagram-famous property was even more spectacular in person. The rooms were beautifully crafted, the amenities luxurious, and the on-site restaurant served food that was out of this world. We toured the largest underground city, a maze definitely not made for six-foot-four teenagers! We also visited a family-owned pottery studio and explored the unique rock formations, including the famous pigeon houses.

Camels and Balloon Sunrises

No trip to Cappadocia would be complete without seeing the countryside on camels. I may have stood on mine for the perfect Instagram shot, but hey, someone has to do it. The highlight, however, was the sunrise hot air balloon ride a true bucket-list experience. Hundreds of balloons filled the sky as the sun rose over the unique landscape. The kids loved every second, and landing perfectly on a truck trailer was the cherry on top of an unforgettable morning.

From here, it’s off to Africa , our first experience on the continent in Tanzania.
