Country Number Seventeen
Country number seventeen in our 52 countries in 52 weeks, The Great Global Adventure, was Croatia, and what a spectacular choice. We connected with a Croatian charter company, and they set us up with a 50-foot Alley Catamaran for the week. This wasn’t just any boat—it had six cabins, so we filled them with family and friends, ready for an epic week on the water.
The Crew
On board with us were my son Braden and his friend Diego, my Aunt Louise and Uncle Dave from Scotland, my Aunt Margo from Canada, and my best friend Morgan from LA with his son Jack. The boat was full of energy and excitement, and we were ready to explore.
Island Adventures
Sailing the crystal-clear waters of Croatia was breathtaking. We stopped at an old Navy submarine hideout where we explored and jumped right into the water. The town of Vis, literally like a movie set, was unforgettable. There we rented scooters to conquer the countryside, discovering hidden beaches, hiking to secret military caves, and climbing to the highest points on the island. Every turn offered new surprises and panoramic views of the Adriatic.
Hidden Gems and Stunning Stops
We found a spot so beautiful we stayed for two days anchored in its clear, turquoise waters. It might be the nicest water I’ve ever seen. Croatia’s old towns, narrow city streets, and delicious local food made each stop even more special. From quaint fishing villages to vibrant harbors, every experience left us in awe.
Reflections on Croatia
Croatia was pure magic a combination of adventure, relaxation, and incredible scenery. Sailing, exploring, swimming, and soaking up the culture made it a week we’ll never forget. From here, we set sail to our next country, number eighteen: Italy.
